Meaningful Use EHR Program Overhauled

CMS has renamed meaningful use EHR program as “Promoting Interoperability.” Along with the change of name comes other substantial changes, such as mandating hospitals to have patients’ electronic health records available the day they leave the hospital, and the increased use of APIs.

CMS is proposing to remove unnecessary or redundant measures from a number of programs as well. Twenty-five total measures across five programs total are in line to be removed, which would result in over 2 million hours of work and $75 million that hospitals would save.
