Are you on track to avoid the MIPS penalty?

Are you on track to avoid the MIPS penalty?  We are in the last stretch of 2017 and we hope everyone is on track to avoid the -4% payment adjustment for the 2019 payment year.

If you have not started tracking your MIPS measures, you can still avoid the 2019 payment penalty.  To avoid the penalty for MIPS, you can choose to submit data using the “Test – Pick Your Pace Option” for submitting data to CMS.  This allows you to submit minimal data to avoid the negative payment adjustment and you will not be eligible for the positive payment adjustment.

To meet the bare minimum requirements, the options include submitting ONE of the following:

  1. Quality –submit data on one quality measure for one patient anytime during the 2017 calendar year.  The easiest way to submit this data to CMS is through claims-based reporting.  Users can add CPT II codes to claims for the corresponding measures needing to be reported on.
  2. Improvement Activity – submit data on one improvement activity for a minimum of 90-days during the 2017 calendar year.  The easiest way to do this will be thru the CMS MIPS portal once this is made available in 2018.
  3. Advancing Care Information – submit the four or five measures that are required to meet the base score for a minimum of 90-days during the 2017 calendar year.  The easiest way to do this will be thru the CMS MIPS portal once this is made available in 2018.

Don’t forget to have your security risk analysis revisited this year as it is required as part of the base score for the ACI category.  Please reach out to support if you have any questions or concerns regarding the MIPS requirements for 2017 reporting.
